All Bearings Are Not Created Equal
Conventional bearings may not always be suitable in certain applications such as vacuum, clean, electric field, high speed or temperature.
Special bearings series have been developed for use in extreme environments, where conventional bearings are not practical or improved performance is desired.
The following offers some examples of these special bearing series.
AISI 52100 Steel – conventional– radial ball bearings are available in standard inch and metric dimensions in open, ZZ – metal shields – and 2RS – rubber seals – designs combine with normal, C3, C4 or C5 clearances with a variety of cage materials, such as pressed steel, polyamide 6.6, machined brass.
316/440C Stainless Steel bearings are corrosion resistant and suitable for wash-down applications. They are available in open, ZZ – metal shields – and 2RS – rubber seals – in standard inch and metric dimensions, as well as insert bearing types for use in pillow blocks and flange units.
Extreme Temperature radial ball bearings are made from AISI 52100 steel with special stabilization surface treatment, cage construction and suitable greases. Temperature ranges from -50C (-58F) to +400C (+725F). Available in standard metric dimensions, including 61800 and 61900 thin section series, with radial clearances C4 and C5 as standard in open, ZZ – metal shields – and 2RS – Viton seals – designs.
Ceramic and Ceramic Hybrid bearings are available in full ceramic, or, more commonly, ceramic hybrid designs which incorporate chrome or stainless steel races with ceramic balls and a variety of special cage constructions. Hybrid bearings are offered in open or ZZ – metal shields – types in standard metric dimensions. Excellent for use in high-speed, excessive-temperature, clean, corrosive, vacuum or electric-field environments. Standard 6200ZZ and 6300ZZ – metal shields – series for use in electric motor applications are available. High-speed, angular contact bearings for machine tool applications are also available.
Plastic – Acetal– bearings are made with either polished glass or stainless steel balls are available in standard inch and metric dimensions. In addition to single-row radial bearings, 3-piece thrust and insert bearings for use in pillow blocks and flange units, along with conveyor end roll, are also offered. Plastic bearings can be immersed in liquid, are hygienic, corrosive resistant and require no lubrication.
Electrically Insulated radial ball and cylindrical roller bearings in standard metric dimensions have an efficient integrated insulation that prevents passage of electric current through the bearing.
